    Prof. TANG is one of the international leading scientists on both marine ecosystem and living resources sustainable utilization. He has served on over 20 scientific organizations, including the core member of GEF--STAP(Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel), vice Chairmen of China Association for Science and Technology, President of the Chinese Fisheries Society, member of the incipient IOC-IUCN-NOAA Consultative Committee on LMEs, member of the incipient Scientific Steering Committee of GLOBEC/IGBP, Consultative expert of National Natural Science Foundation of China, member of the Science Board of the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) and Chairman of the Fishery Science Committee of PICES.

    He participated in the formulation of both the LMEs, an action for a new global ocean management concept, and GLOBEC, a leading science program on ocean ecosystem studies. He is the chief scientist of two national research projects (1999-2004 and 2006-2010) of the Chinese National Key Basic Research Program. In both these projects, scientists in physical oceanography, chemic oceanography, biologic oceanography and fishery oceanography are involved. Because of the success of the 1999-2004 research project, Prof. Tang has been invited to serve again on the Scientific Steering Committee of the GLOBEC/IGBP, after serving the committee in its incipient stage in middle 90’s. In addition to basic researches, Prof. Tang has applied his research findings to carrying capacity in aquaculture, fish-stock enhancement, as well as new concepts in fisheries management and sustainable mariculture. He is the chief scientist on the project of “Investigation and evaluation on marine living resources and inhabiting environment in the Chinese EEZ and continental shelves”.

    He has authored about 200 research papers and authored/edited 18 books. Prof. Tang’s research projects have received 4 national scientific & technological prizes and 6 ministry/province level prizes. For his work, Prof. Tang has been recognized as the National Outstanding Contribution Expert and Distinguished Technology Specialized Talent, awarded the Prize of Earth Science for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho-Leung-Ho-Lee (HLHL) Foundation, awarded Top Science & Technology Prize of Shandong Province, and received 10 other honorary titles.

    Since the late 1950s, ZHAO Fa-zhen has been engaged in aquaculture, mainly for shrimp farming technology and experimental ecological research. With the joint efforts of his colleagues, he successfully discovered the ecological and biological characteristics of the shrimp. Meanwhile, he expounded the scientific arguments of the artificial breeding of prawns and the artificial overwintering culture in the application of technology. A series of significant scientific research achievements have made great contributions to the creation and development of China's shrimp culture.

    At the beginning of 60s, he completed the research of the morphological development of Chinese shrimp larvae for the first time, which lay a foundation of the whole shrimp artificial breeding. In the middle of 60s, his researches on the small area of shrimp culture model as well as the medium and large-scale water surface shrimp aquaculture succeed so that the industry of China's shrimp aquaculture started from then on.

    In the 70s, he also succeeded in conducting a series of high-yield testing of prawn breeding and development of bait and he got National Science Conference Award. In the 80s, he created a highly efficient, stable mass produced factory-wide system of artificial breeding technology because of the studies on the national key project "Shrimp factory artificial breeding technology". The artificial breeding of prawns and the maximum output of aquaculture made China become the world powers of shrimp farming which obtained significant economic and social benefits. He won the first prize of the scientific and technological progress of the state and the world intellectual property organization gold prize. Later on, he also won the second prize of the scientific and technological progress of the state because of the studies on artificial bait of shrimp” achievement

    Since 1990s, the technology of his research on” Chinese shrimp culture integrated disease prevention “came to the domestic advanced level. In recent years, with his guidance, the "Yellow Sea No.1" Chinese shrimp which is the original new varieties audited by the national commission has become the first artificial breeding of fine varieties of mariculture animals. At the same time, he completed "The health of Chinese shrimp farming technology demonstration" project with his colleagues which promote the healthy development of the Chinese shrimp aquaculture. So far, he has written more than 70 articles.

    Because of his excellent achievements, he was entitled the national outstanding contributions middle-aged and young expert in 1986. He received the State Council Government special allowance since 1990. In 1995, he was named the academician of Chinese Academy Engineering. He got the “project award” in the fifth "Guanghua engineering science and technology competition" in 2004 and won the second "Chinese agricultural excellence award" in 2008.

    LEI Ji-lin has mainly been engaged in marine fish embryology and culture ecology, industrialization hatching and culture, feed and nutrition, disease cure and prevention and well-bred species introduction. He initiated a series of technologies and systems of industrialization hatching, culture, the release and enhancement of artificial seeds; and put forward new concepts and new techniques of “relay-culture between North and South, land and sea,” “energy-saving over-winter.” Thanks to his outstanding achievements, he won the National Award for Scientific and Technological Progress twice; the Dupont Science and Technology Innovation Award; many awards by the province and ministry; the “Fu Min Xing Lu” Award of Shandong Province; the “Outstanding Contribution” Award of Qingdao, and so on. He has published more than 120 papers and seven books, including Marine Fish Culture Theory and Techniques (monograph or coauthor).

    He was the first man in China introducing turbot (Scophthalmus maximus), a European well-bred species, to China in 1992. After seven years of research and trials, he made a key breakthrough in hatching technique, created “greenhouse + deep well seawater” industrialization culture mode and accelerated “the Fourth Industrial Tidal Wave of Marine Culture,” which have generated great social and economic benefits. Therefore, the introduction of turbot is considered as the most successful marine fish species introduction project in China, and Lei Jilin is reputed as “Father of Turbot in China.”

    Research Interest

    Dr.Jin received his undergraduate degree in China and his M. Phil. and Dr. Sci. from University of Bergen, Norway with a background in research of stock assessment, fisheries ecology and fisheries management, and has centered on long-term changes of species composition, population dynamics, food web for the high trophic levels, stock enhancement and its ecological safety, healthy, sustainable utilization and management of Large Marine Ecosystem in the Yellow Sea, Bohai Sea, and East China Sea., as well as high seas fishery resources investigation in order to provide scientific bases for ecosystem-based fisheries management and promotion of the healthy development of marine ecosystem and the sustainable utilization of marine living resources. As principal Investigator, he has undertaken many national and ministerial programs, of which several ones have obtained national and ministerial awards.

    CHEN is a Scientist and the vice superintendent of Yangtze River Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS. The follows were the main projects he has ever taken charge of:

    CHEN went to Fisheries Center, University of British Columbia, Canada for study on fishery ecological model as senior visiting scholar for half a year in 2005. He mainly takes research activities in the fields of marine fishery resources, fishery ecology, and enhancement of fishery resources and fishery information technology, etc. including survey and assessment of fishery resources, management of fishery resources, and biology of fisheries, ichthyology, and condition of fishing ground, ecology of population, ecology of community, ecology of fishery ecological system, seed production for enhancement of fishery resources and evaluation of artificial releasing, ecological rehabilitation, retrieval and processing of information on condition of fishing ground and application of GIS in fisheries, etc. He has taken charge of and taken part in more than 30 research projects concerned and he has been awarded more than 10 prizes of scientific and technological progress at levels of the state, Ministry of Agriculture, Shanghai Municipality and Ministry of Land and Resources. 3 monographs written by him has been published and more than 50 scientific papers written by him has been issued.

    He has written more than 60 scientific papers and 7 monographs that had been published formally by Journals and Publishing Houses. He has awarded two the second class prizes of the national scientific and technological progress, one the first class prize of scientific and technological progress at level of province/ministry, four the second class prizes of technological progress at level of province/ministry, two the third class prizes of technological progress at level of province/ministry. More than 10 research items were bestowed the scientific progress award by the different organizations such as “Studies on Application of Fisheries Cancerogenicity, Malformagenicity and Mutagenicity in Fishery Environmental Monitoring” was awarded to be Scientific Progress Rank Three by Ministry of Agriculture in 1996; “The Environmental Effect of the Fishery Culture in Taihu Lake to Taihu Lake Environment” was awarded to be excellent research result rank two by Fishery Eco-environmental Monitoring Centre, Ministry of Agriculture in 2006 and so on.

    Research Achievements 

    The national key project of “Red Tilapia selection breeding research” got more than 80% all red tilapia offspring and growth rat above 16% more than controls, this achievement won third prize of the scientific and technological progress of the Ministry of Agriculture.

    In the project of “Expression study and Application of fish recombinant growth hormone” successfully expression fish GH in yeast and the yeast containing recombinant common carp growth hormone was applied as supplement to feed fish fingerling. This achievement won first prize of the scientific and technological progress of Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences.

    Generation of red fluorescent protein (RFP) transgenic white cloud mountain minnow(Tanichthys albonubes), and got stable heredity line. This transgenic fish can be used as ornamental fish with red fluoresce can be seen with unaided eyes in the normal daylight.

    Work Experience

    ZOU Gui-wei mainly study up artificial propagation, genetic diversity and genetic improvement of the mainly cultured freshwater fishes. Up to the present, I have undertaken eleven national scientific projects (e.g. National 9th -11th Five Years Plan Key Research Programs of China ) since 1995. A lots of new hybrids of carp were cultivated by artificial hybridisaton (e.g. Ying hybrid carp,Heyuan hybrid carp,etc. ), attained five achievements in scientific research, and published more than 40 academic papers. Recently, I am absorbed in genetic improvement of silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) by means of artificial gynogenesis and molecular markers, in order to breed new species of high growth rate or disease-resistance.

    In the prevention and control of aquatic animal disease and aquatic laboratory animal, She has a long-standing research sponsored by National High-tech RD Program (863 Program), National Key Technologies RD Program, and so on. Currently some advanced progresses have been made as follows:

    Exploring the Transferring mechanism of M.artus in vivo from grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idellus ;

    Establishing the rapid immunology and serology diagnosis techniques for pathogenic bacteria from fish;

    Developing Vibrio vaccine for marine fish, Aeromonas hydrophila vaccine for fish and ISKNV vaccine for mandarin fish ( Siniperca chuatsi);

    Studying fishery drugs;

    Breeding and applying pure-line of aquatic laboratory animal;

    Establishing measure of reducing stress reaction of fish by ecological modulation.

    Over the past 20 years, She has been awarded scientific prize for 8 times including one first prize, two second prize and one third prize for Advance of Science and technology of Ministry or Province; two first prize of Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. She has published more than 70 scientific papers and 1 volume of book, applied 8 patents and the one was authorized, breed one pure-line of aquatic laboratory animal approved by Ministry of Agriculture, received 7 production licences of fishery drugs.     HUANG found the pathogen of the epidemic disease of shrimp, invented the T-E staining rapid diagnostic method, revealed the viral transmission route, developed the gene probe detection kit, established the gene chip diagnostic technology for shrimp and fish pathogens, and found WSSV attachment proteins and the genes. He has 98 publication in recent 5 years and 5 of them was published in international journals, obtained 3 patents, published 10 industrial standards, and trained 45 doctor and master students. He won the National Class 2 Invention Award (3rd), the Provincial Class 1 Award (7th) of the Shandong Province, the Ministerial Class 2 Award (2nd) of the Education Ministry, the Ocean Innovation Class 2 Award (3rd), the Provincial Class 3 Award (6th), Academic Class 1 and Class 2 Awards (2nd and 1st) of CAFS.     Work Experience

    Since his graduation from the Department of Virology of Wuhan University in July, 1983, Dr. ZENG has been engaged in and dedicated to the researches on the fundamentals of applied theories and the prevention and treatment techniques of fish diseases for over 25 years at the Yangtze River Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS, and chaired or joined more than 20 projects or grants from the sources of the state, the agricultural ministry and the Chinese academy of fishery sciences, etc. In the fields of fish cells culture, fish diseases diagnosis, isolation and identification of aquatic pathogens, pathology, epidemiology, molecular biology and vaccinology, etc, Dr. ZENG has a plenty of fundamental knowledge and intensive expertise. He has made great contributions to the isolation and identification of Grass carp hemorrhage virus in China, and fully investigated the biological characterizations and genome analysis of the virus, and developed a technology for the large-scale killed vaccine preparation and application of the disease. Due to his outstanding jobs in the field, Dr. ZENG has gained several awards for science advancement from the state, the agricultural ministry and the Chinese academy of fishery sciences, etc.

    ZHUANG has been engaged in doing research works on aquaculture and fishery ecology. During the time of ‘the Ninth Five Years Plan’ and the ‘the Tenth Five Years Plan’ He had taken charge of more than 10 important scientific research projects such as project of early behavior and ecology research of sturgeon species supported by the National Natural Scientific Foundation, key technologies R&D program of domestication of Amur sturgeon in the central part of China and breeding technology, etc. In recent years, he has undertaken a number of major and key projects such as the subject of the ecological impact of water area environmental stress from important aquatic life supported by the major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, variety development of seawater omnivorous fish and rabbit fish species supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China, etc.

    In a long term scientific research activities, he has taken the lead in researching the fish species individual development and behavior ecology in China and obtained a number of innovative results; the biological hole camera detective technology was applied as the core technology for the first time in the world, and the sturgeon non-injury gender identification and the dynamic monitoring method of gonad development have been developed. The implementation of physiological and ecological control technology for the first time in the world shortened the maturity age of male Amur sturgeon of 3 years. He and his team successfully solved the problem of the male and female development not synchronized in artificial propagation of sturgeon, and made a major breakthrough in key technologies of whole artificial propagation and breeding. The first time in China they launched large-scale, multi-batches whole artificial propagation of Paddlefish and Siberia sturgeon, which played an important role in technical support for China rapidly becoming the world’s largest sturgeon breeding states. The results have a direct economic benefit nearly 150 million; the whole research has reached the international advanced level, some studies leading up to international level. At present he is focus on the Yangtze River estuary conservation biology and ecology of the estuary. Advanced tagging and tracking technology had been used on research of Yangtze River estuary sturgeon migratory mechanism. And he tried to establish the digital Yangtze River Estuarine Chinese Sturgeon Nature Reserve. These works and progresses have reported by many news media, and be deemed to play a positive role in construction of Shanghai ecotype international city. He has achieved 12 scientific and technological achievements awards above provincial and ministerial level, applied patent more than 20 terms, authorized 6 patents, published articles more than 100 papers at home and abroad, and wrote 4 monographs.

    ★1993-1996. In charge of the international cooperation project “ Study on carrying capacity of Sungo Bay for bivalves and seaweed”, Co-researcher: Prof. Jon Grant. In this project, the models for estimating the carrying capacity for bivalves and seaweed were established.

    ★1997-2000. In charge of the project “Carrying capacity of bay system and optimising measures”, a subject of national key 5 year-term programme. In this project, the ecological benefit polyculture and integrated mariculture technologies of shellfish, fish and seaweed were established and very good results were obtained in the demonstration regions during the last three years of the duration . of the project.

    ★1999-2001. The leader of research group of YSFRI of the EU project “ carrying capacity of Chinese bay and the impact of mariculture on environment”, The project group include the scientists from France, UK, Portugal, Canada and the rest from three research institutions of China. In this project, the growth simulation models for the carrying capacity of scallop was studied.

    ★2001-2002. In Charge of the national Key programme “ Sustainable mariculture” in this project, the ecological benefit mariculture models and technologies was demonstrated and prompted in along the northern coastal line of China.

    ★2003-2005. In charge of project of the National natural scientific fundament “Study on Interaction between Intensive Bivalves culture and Environment in Coastal waters”. The study of interaction of large scale bivalves aquaculture and environment was carried out in Sungo Bay in the purpose of analysing the positive and negative effect of large scale mariculture on environment and ecosystem.

    ★2003-2005. In Charge of the national “863” project “ Study on the technologies for seed breeding of Manila clam in commercial scale”. So far, about 5000 million seed of manila clam was produced with a integrated techniques and equipment.

    ★2004-2006: Participated the EU project “Marine Investment for Future Prosperity (MARINVEST)”, the leader of research group of YSFRI and Chinese partners. This project would help Chinese government and farmers to improve the quality of maricultured bivalves greatly.

    Working Experience:

    Sun mi, Director of Marine Product Resource and Enzyme Engineering Lab, Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, has been working on marine product resource for long time. She is a leading experts in research field of the marine microbial low-temperature enzyme and marine polypeptide medicine. Under her leadership, the Qingdao Key Lab of Marine Enzyme Engineering and Pilot Experiment Station were established, with expertise in low-temperature enzyme engineering, metabolism regulation and high efficiency expression, allowing research and development of novel marine low-temperature enzyme from laboratory to pilot plant trial.

    Professional Highlights:

    Since 2000, she has led and accomplished 12 major research projects, including National Hi-tech Research and Development Program, National Biomedical Hi-tech Program, National Natural Science Fund and International Grand Cooperation Project between China and Canada. For this, she has been recognized with the Technical Progress Award of Chinese Academic of Fishery Science, Qingdao Technical Invention Award and Golden Award of National 14th Invention Fair.     Work Experience

    Since 1984, ZHAI Yu-xiu has engaged in control of quality and safety, standardization, quality testing of aquatic products. Now serving as the chairman of the subject of quality and safety of aquatic products in Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, the managing deputy director of the research section of quality and safety of aquatic products in Yellow Sea Fishery Research Institute, the deputy director of the National Quality Supervision and Inspection Centers of Aquatic Products, the member of Food Safety Committee of the Food and Drug Administration, and the directorship of Analysis and Test Society in Qingdao. After 2000, has taken up a dozen research projects, such as the National Natural Science Foundation, the Key technologies R&D Projects, the Public Project for Fundamental Research and Development, the Platform Program for Fundamental Research and Development, 948 Project of Chinese Agriculture Ministry, and the Special Fund of Chinese Agriculture Ministry. Moreover, providing back-up technology for the related government organs in emergency of aquatic products safety.

    In recent years, more than 30 research papers have been published, including 11 in the central journals as lead author of the study and 1 SCI. And many research achievements have won the honor of "Science and Technology Advancement Prize" awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture, State Oceanic Administration and Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences.     Employment background

    Once nominated as the chief director of the certification subcenter for fishery production which subordinates center for agri-food quality and safety, MOA. From Nov 2007, SONG was proposed as the chief director of Research Center of Fishery Production Standard and Quality, CAFS; and manages many item of national and the ministry-level project topic in the field of research work.     CAI You-qiong graduated from Ocean College of Shandong and specialized in aquatic products processing of fisheries department. He has been working in East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, specializing in the field of processing and fully utilization related with aquatic products, shellfish purification and sanitation, aquatic products quality inspection and so on. His chiefly finished items are as follow: study on shellfish purification technologies, demonstration of technology system concerning shellfish production ,about ten criterions on safety limit and control of primary aquiculture fishery product .Simultaneously, he charged and participated in determining several Agriculture Ministry Criterions on the fishery products and industrial criterion on fishery product. He began to work in the field of fishery products quality inspection at 2003.Now he is the vice director of the laboratory of Fisheries Environments and Aquatic Products Processing of East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute and Fishery Products Quality Inspection and Test Center , Ministry of Agriculture of China ,shanghai.     Xu Hao, director of the Fishery Machinery and Instrument Research Institute of CAFS, is engaged in the research and extension activities of the fishery equipment and engineering technology for a long time, familiar with the development tendency of the fishery equipment and engineering in domestic and aboard, and has developed a batch of new fishery equipments and technologies urgently needed to our country.     GUO Genxi, researcher, a senior member of China Society of Fisheries and director of Fishery Engineering Division, South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. He graduated from Zhanjiang Fisheries University (Guangdong Ocean University at present) of majoring in marine fishing In 1979. By far, he have been engaging in the research of marine fishery, fishing gear and method, the facility cultivation technologies and equipments for 30 years, in 2004 he is appointed as researcher. Since 2000, The number of scientific research project he has presided about hi-tech research and development program of china, national key technology R&D program and province & ministry project is more than 20, at the end of performing, all of them were check and accept. 8 achievements in scientific research were obtained. They not only breaking through and renewing the development idea as well as expanding scientific connotation of facility cultivation, but also founding China's technologies and equipments of deep-water sea cage, paving the way for the research and development of China’s deep sea cultivation.

    The research team he leaded have obtained more than 30 invention patents and 30 utility model patents respectively, and put the technical achievements into practice, promoting the industrialization of deep-water sea cage cultivation in China. Now the equipments and technologies of deep-water sea cage have been exported to the peripheral countries around Southeast Asia.

    In the past two decades, his main research field is facility fishery equipments and technologies, Artificial Fish-Reefs, marine fishing and fishing gear and method. He has obtained the fruitful scientific and technical achievements. From 1982, he has been awarded “sci-tech progress award” 11 times by Agricultural Department of PRC and Guangdong Province. He has written three monographs: ”China Marine Fishing Atlas”, “Fisherman Diving Technologies“, ”The Study of Deep-water Anti-stormy-wave net-cage“, “Dynamics Theory Research and Practice on Trawl Otter-board“, ”Talking of Steamship Cross the Ocean”, which have played significant roles in research, teaching, producing, management. He also has compiled the marine fishery development planning(from 2003 to 2010) and deep-water cage cultivation development planning for Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi province. He has released more than 50 papers.

    Engaged in the work on fishery information and policy since 1980’s .
